Cookie Policy

Cat Arcade's own code sets no cookies. It uses browser storage instead, which is a different thing and worth understanding. Third-party advertising, if the site owner enables it, does set cookies.

Cookies and localStorage are not the same

A cookie is a small piece of data stored by your browser and automatically attached to every request your browser makes to the site that set it. That automatic transmission is what makes cookies useful for tracking and for keeping you signed in, and it is also why they are regulated as they are.

localStorage is also stored by your browser, but it is never attached to a request. It sits on your device and is only readable by JavaScript running on the same site. When Cat Arcade saves your high score, the score is written to your device and stays there - it is not sent anywhere, because nothing sends it.

What Cat Arcade stores

All of the following is localStorage, not cookies, and all of it stays on your device:

None of this is used to identify you, and none of it is shared. There is no server that could receive it.

Third-party cookies

The site includes clearly-marked slots for advertising. CONFIGURE: state here whether an advertising network is active and name it. Where an advertising network such as Google AdSense is active, it may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser in order to serve advertisements, limit how often you see the same advertisement, and measure performance. Those cookies are set by the provider, not by us, and are governed by the provider's own policies.

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Personalised advertising can generally be turned off through the provider's own settings - for Google, through Google Ads Settings - and through industry opt-out pages operated by advertising trade bodies.

No analytics provider is included in the site as shipped.

The notice shown on your first visit lets you accept all storage or limit the site to what is strictly necessary. Choosing "Essential only" records that choice and signals it to any advertising code the owner has configured, so that non-essential storage is not used. Your choice is remembered in localStorage so you are not asked on every page.

Declining does not disable the games. Your theme, sound, scores and favourites are still saved locally, because those are the site doing what you asked it to do rather than tracking you.

Controlling storage yourself

Every browser lets you inspect and delete cookies and site data, usually under settings for privacy, site permissions or site data. You can:

  • Delete all data this site has stored, which resets your scores and preferences.
  • Block third-party cookies generally, which limits advertising cookies across all sites.
  • Use a private or incognito window, in which storage is discarded when you close it - note that this means your high scores will not persist.
  • Use a browser extension that blocks advertising, which this site is built to work with.

Changes

If the site's use of cookies or storage changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
