Cat Adventure Games - Explore, Collect and Reach the End
Designed levels with a beginning and an end, where the challenge is the route rather than the clock.
Adventure games are the opposite of endless runners. There is a destination, the levels were designed by hand rather than generated, and nothing forces you forward - you can stop, look at a section and work out what it wants before you commit.
That difference in pacing changes everything about how the games are built. A generated runner has to be safe for any possible arrangement; a hand-designed level can be exactly as demanding as the designer intends, because every jump in it has been played.

What makes a level a level
A good arcade level teaches, tests and then combines. Jungle Kitty's first stage opens with three easy gaps of increasing width - that is the teaching. The middle introduces a beetle you have to time - that is the test. The final stretch asks you to time a beetle while making the widest jump in the level - that is the combination. You can find this structure in nearly every hand-designed platformer ever made.
The full reasoning behind that structure, and how to apply it if you are building something yourself, is in designing fun cat game levels.
Checkpoints change the difficulty curve
A hard sequence with a checkpoint in front of it is a puzzle. The same sequence with the checkpoint five minutes back is a punishment. The games here put a checkpoint immediately before each genuinely difficult section, which makes repeated attempts cheap and lets the sections themselves be harder than they otherwise could be.
This is also why neither adventure game has a life limit. Once failure costs only a few seconds, limiting the number of attempts adds nothing except frustration.
Three different shapes of adventure
- Jungle Kitty
- A conventional side-scrolling platformer with four levels. No special moves - the level geometry does all the work. The right starting point if you have not played a platformer recently.
- Magic Cat Adventure
- Adds a cooldown-based mid-air dash. Several crossings are deliberately beyond jump range, so the dash is required rather than optional. The hardest game on the site.
- Space Cat
- Not a platformer at all - free flight in two dimensions with inertia and screen wrapping. It is on this page because it shares the exploratory pacing, not the movement model.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cat adventure game?
A game where a cat travels through designed levels toward a goal, usually collecting things and dealing with hazards on the way. Unlike a runner, it has an end.
Are the levels randomly generated?
No. Every level in Jungle Kitty and Magic Cat Adventure was designed, played and adjusted by hand, which is why the difficulty can be tuned precisely.
Is my progress saved between visits?
Yes. Unlocked levels and your best collectible counts are stored in your browser's localStorage.
How long does a level take?
Between three and ten minutes for a first attempt, less once you know the route. They are longer than the runners on this site by design.
Is there a life limit?
No. Dying returns you to the last checkpoint, and you can try a section as many times as you like.
Which adventure game is hardest?
Magic Cat Adventure, by a clear margin. It requires the mid-air dash to be timed to about a third of a second on several crossings.

How Checkpoints Work in Platform Games
A checkpoint sets the price of failure, and the price of failure decides how hard a section is allowed to be.
