Editorial Policy

This page describes how content on Cat Arcade is produced. It is written to be checkable: everything here is something you could verify by reading the site.

Last reviewed: 15 September 2026.

Scope

This policy covers everything published on catarcade.xyz: game pages, category pages, guides and articles, and the informational pages including this one. It applies to all content regardless of whether a page carries advertising.

How content is created

  1. Topic selectionTopics come from two sources: mechanics we had to work out while building the games, and questions that a player of these games would plausibly have. We do not build a publishing schedule from keyword lists, and we do not publish an article simply because a phrase looks like it gets searched.
  2. ResearchFor articles about the games on this site, the primary source is the game's own source code and repeated play-testing. For articles about general arcade and browser-game concepts, the source is established, widely-documented technical behaviour - how Canvas draws, how requestAnimationFrame schedules frames, how localStorage persists - which we describe rather than cite to a single authority.
  3. Play-testingNo game page is written from a specification. Every game is played through repeatedly, including on a phone, before its page is written. Tips articles are written only after the technique described has actually been used across a number of attempts.
  4. DraftingArticles are written to answer a specific question. Sections that do not contribute to that answer are removed rather than padded. We do not repeat the introduction in the conclusion, and we do not restate the title as a heading.
  5. Technical reviewAny claim about how a game on this site behaves is checked against the code that produces the behaviour. Any claim about browser behaviour is checked by testing it in a browser.
  6. Publication and reviewEach page carries a publication date and, where it has changed, an updated date. Both are real.

Standards of accuracy

These rules are absolute and apply to every page.

  • We do not invent statistics, percentages, player numbers, search volumes or market figures.
  • We do not invent or paraphrase studies, papers or research findings.
  • We do not invent quotations, experts, interviews or third-party opinions.
  • We do not publish ratings, review scores, star ratings or aggregate player feedback, because we do not collect any.
  • We do not claim awards, certifications, partnerships or endorsements.
  • We do not describe a feature of a game that does not exist in that game.

Where a claim would require data we do not have, the article says so explicitly rather than estimating. The fact-checking policy covers how claims are verified and how errors are corrected.

Opinion and judgement

A great deal of what we publish is judgement rather than fact: that one game is a better starting point than another, that pressing early beats pressing late, that a particular difficulty curve feels fair. These are presented as what they are. When we write that a technique works, we mean it worked in our testing, and we phrase it that way rather than dressing it up as a finding.

Editorial independence

No advertiser, network or third party has any input into what we publish, how a game is described, or which games appear where on the site. Advertising is served into fixed, clearly-labelled slots and has no relationship to editorial placement.

Advertising separation

  • Every ad slot is visually separated from the content around it and carries a visible label.
  • No ad is placed over or adjacent to a game's controls, or anywhere it could be mistaken for a game button.
  • No ad is styled to resemble editorial content, navigation or a call to action.
  • Game pages keep the play area and its controls free of advertising entirely.
  • The site is fully functional with advertising blocked or absent.

At the time of writing, Cat Arcade carries no sponsored content, paid placements, affiliate links or paid reviews. If that changes, any such content will be labelled clearly on the page itself, at the top, in plain language, and it will be held to the same accuracy standards as everything else. We will not publish sponsored content that we would not publish unpaid.

Updates and maintenance

Game pages are reviewed whenever the game they describe is changed, because a changed mechanic makes the page wrong. Guides are reviewed when we notice something has become inaccurate. Pages that are still correct are not given a cosmetic date change to look fresh - an updated date on this site means the content actually changed.

Corrections

Corrections are welcome and are handled under the fact-checking policy. Substantive corrections - anything that changes the meaning of a claim - are noted on the page. Typographical fixes are made silently.

Use of automation

Software tools are used in producing this site, including for generating the repetitive parts of page structure such as metadata, breadcrumbs and internal link blocks. Editorial judgement about what to publish, what a game does and whether a claim is true rests with the editorial desk, and every page is reviewed by a person before publication. No page is published automatically.

Original work

All games, artwork, game code, descriptions and written content on this site are produced for this site. We do not copy game descriptions, code, screenshots, artwork or brand names from anywhere else, and we do not use third-party game assets.
