How Endless Cat Runner Games Work
The cat never moves. The world does. Here is how that one trick produces an entire genre.
Endless Runner
Cat Dash is an endless runner where a cat sprints along a city street, hopping over crates and catching fish. Speed climbs steadily, so the only limit on your score is how long your timing holds up.

Cat Dash is the most straightforward game on Cat Arcade, and that is deliberate. The cat runs on its own along a scrolling street. You have exactly two decisions available at any moment - jump or duck - and the game spends its whole run asking you to make those two decisions slightly faster than you did a moment ago.
Obstacles come in three shapes. Wooden crates sit on the ground and need a normal jump. Stacked crates are tall enough that a late jump will clip the corner, so they need an early one. Awnings hang from the buildings at head height and cannot be jumped at all - those are the ones you duck under. The game never places a hanging awning and a ground crate in the same slot, because that combination would be unfair at high speed.
Fish are scattered along the route, most of them sitting on the natural arc of a jump. That placement is doing double duty: it rewards you for jumping, and it shows you roughly where the game expects your jump to peak. If you are consistently jumping under the fish rather than through them, you are jumping late.
Speed rises with distance on a smooth curve. There is no level break, no sudden step, and no point at which the game changes the rules on you. What changes is your reaction window: at the start you have a little over half a second between an obstacle appearing and needing to act, and after a few thousand points that window is closer to a quarter of a second.

The single most common mistake in Cat Dash is jumping when the obstacle looks close. By the time a crate looks close at high speed, the cat has already committed to the ground for another few frames. Aim to press the moment the crate crosses the right-hand third of the canvas and let the arc do the work.
Players who use the double jump on every obstacle plateau quickly, because the second jump resets your fall and makes your landings unpredictable. Keep it in reserve. If you jump too early and see you are going to land short, that is the moment to spend it.
Ducking has no cost. There is no penalty for being low when you did not need to be, so if you are unsure whether the obstacle ahead is an awning, duck. The only thing ducking cannot save you from is a ground crate, and those are visually distinct: crates are solid brown squares on the floor, awnings are striped and attached to the buildings.
A fish sitting just past a tall crate is usually reachable, but a fish sitting immediately before one is a trap - you will land in exactly the wrong place. The multiplier is worth chasing, but a run that ends at 40 seconds with a high multiplier scores less than a run that lasts three minutes with no multiplier at all.
If the game feels stuttery, close other tabs. Cat Dash renders on a single Canvas with a handful of shapes, so a stutter almost always comes from something else competing for the browser's main thread rather than from the game itself.
Yes. Every game on Cat Arcade is free, runs in your browser, and needs no account or download.
Yes. Tap the upper half of the canvas to jump and hold the lower half to duck. The canvas scales to your screen width and the page stops scrolling while your finger is on the play area.
No. Cat Dash is an endless runner, so a run ends only when the cat hits an obstacle. The goal is distance and score rather than completion.
In your browser's localStorage, on your device. It is not sent anywhere, and it is not linked to you. Clearing your browsing data will remove it.
You only get one extra jump per airborne period. If you have already used it, further presses are ignored until you touch the ground again.
Yes. Press P, or use the Pause button above the canvas. The game also pauses automatically if you switch tabs, so you will not lose a run to a notification.
